ABOUT US

At Rootz Growing Minds, our journey began with a shared passion: helping children feel confident, capable, and inspired in their learning. Founded by two experienced educators, Elzmari and Zinelle, the centre was created from a deep understanding that every child learns differently - and deserves the support to thrive.

With years of teaching across classrooms, countries, and communities, they saw firsthand the need for a more personalised, nurturing approach to learning - one that builds not only knowledge, but also confidence and a genuine love for learning.

Rootz Growing Minds is more than a learning centre - it’s a space where strong foundations are built, potential is unlocked, and every learner is encouraged to grow.

Zinelle Smith

Co-Founder & Educator

With over 20 years’ experience, Zinelle, is a true master when it comes to all things math-related.

After graduating from North-West University with a degree in Human Movement Science and a Post Graduate certificate in Education, Zinelle and her husband moved to London, where she decided to follow her passion for teaching. From 2006 to 2009 she worked at various schools in London and later became Principal of CL English Language School.

After returning to South Africa, Zinelle became a teacher at Laerskool Nelspruit, where she taught mathematics to Grades 4 and 6 learners for over 10 years.

Thereafter, Zinelle owned and operated a mathematics centre - in Mbombela, Mpumalanga for 2 years - before deciding to make the change and move to Durbanville in order to be closer to family. For the last 2 years Zinelle has been working as a relief teacher at Kenridge Primary School as well as operating a mathematics centre for learners in the Durbanville area.

She is a true magician of maths, so come and see how she weaves her mathemagic!
